An old woman in Mexico dreams of a young girl whose eyes look like hers. She stands in the moonlight, calling. In America, Clara Luna, fourteen, slips outside and asks the moon to show her what is real. Soon a letter comes, asking Clara to come to Mexico to visit for the summer. Clara has never met her Spanish grandparents. Her father crossed over the border long ago to make a different life and never speaks of home. Clara is at a time in her life when she needs direction and to discover who she really is, and so she goes. Though shocked by the simple shacks and the mountain culture of Yucuyoo, she knows in her heart she has come home.
