One day while Mortimer Mouse is looking for crumbs, he spots his dream house on a table next to the Christmas tree. Climbing the tree, he discovers a creche scene. The tiny mouse lugs the statues out, saying, "There's no room for you here." Pulling the baby figurine out of his bed, Mortimer curls up to sleep in the warm hay on the wooden bed. Only later, in overhearing the family's story about the very first Christmas, does he realize what the Nativity represents. After replacing the figures, Mortimer sends up a prayer of his own, a surprise you just have to see yourself! Jane Chapman's marvelous illustrations truly capture Mortimer's personality. The story line is simple enough to be understood by young children, but still appeal to older kids as well. Mortimer's Christmas Manger is a holiday book to treasure year after year.
