Illustrated by S.D. Schindler
On the afternoon of Halloween, the Baxter children come upon an enormous pumpkin at the top of a hill. The boys make the mistake of snapping the pumpkin from its vine, and soon the runaway pumpkin is wreaking havoc all over the Baxter farm, mowing down everything (and everyone!) in its path with the silliest results.
In the midst of being flattened by this gigantic pumpkin, each family member envisions the tasty dishes that Granny Baxter could make, so they figure out a plan to stop the pumpkin and get it into the kitchen. By the end of this charming rhyme, the entire costume-clad family is supping on a wonderful meal, courtesy of that perfect pumpkin. After reading this rollicking book, I was itching to get into the kitchen to make my own loaf of pumpkin bread!
