After the Beijing Olympics, I thought a lot about the Chinese people and how they live. I was thrilled to find this special autobiographical story written by a man who grew up in Beijing in the early 1960s, the son of a musician father and a university-educated mother. Guo Yue lived through the years of the Cultural Revolution and the trauma and losses of that time. He was able to leave China at the age of 23 to pursue his music in London.
