I marvel that a short, little book like this can hold so much wisdom and beauty for our budding middle-schoolers and teens. On one level, the story is fairly straightforward. Eleven-year-old Jessica doesn't know what to think or how to be as her own metamorphosis into puberty coincides with big changes in her family. Her mother is pregnant, and when little Lucie arrives, Jessica's distant mom, her brooding teenage brother, and her disorganized father have to find a new way of being.
They are an ordinary family, with ordinary challenges. But Lucie brings something entirely out of the ordinary—something that rocks the foundations of the family completely. This little book is filled with enormous depth and meaning, especially for those who are faced with grieving and letting go.
