True story. Christmas Eve, 1914. No Man's Land is the only thing separating the German soldiers from the Allies in the trenches. The war is waiting. Who will make the first attack? Suddenly a German voice drifts across the field, singing ''Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht.'' Amazed, the Allies sing back, ''Silent Night, Holy Night.'' ''Someone is coming toward us!'' a man cries, and the soldiers aim their rifles. But it is a single German soldier waving a white truce sign and carrying a Christmas tree shining with candles. Soon soldiers from both sides join together, exchanging chocolate, showing each other photographs from home, keeping Christmas. When dawn comes, they go back to their separate trenches. Back to war.
