Sean Callahan
Illustrated by Kathleen Kemly
Irish stepdancer Shannon doesn't have the fancy fixings the other dancers have. On top of that, three days before the Saint Patrick's Day stepdance contest, the heel on one of Shannon's shoes breaks, and her parents can't afford a new pair. She wistfully speaks some old Irish, hoping beyond hope that a leprechaun will materialize and help her out.
When she opens her eyes, a six-foot-tall figure is standing beside her, claiming to be a leprechaun. But can Shannon believe him? Aren't leprechauns supposed to be little and sly and clever? This character calls himself Liam and acts disgusted that she doesn't have faith in him. Thus unfolds a wee little charmer of a tale, guaranteed to please for St. Patrick's Day and to inspire all readers who may have a dream and have to believe in themselves enough to fulfill it.
