Sarah-kate Lynch
I savored every page of this bubbly treat of a novel. Clementine has worked every aspect of the family vineyard in France and is its rightful heir. All her life she has endured her sour grapes of a father, Olivier, and has been managing the vineyard virtually singlehandedly. So when Olivier dies, it comes as a complete shock that she must share the vineyard with a half-sister and another she did not know even existed!
Together, they form an unlikely trio: lonely Clementine, whose closest companion is her miniature horse, and who silently pines for the affections of a neighboring vintner; wealthy, spoiled, critical Mathilde, who has run away from her public relations job back in New York; and quiet, unassuming Sophie, who never knew her father and yearns to know her history. Each has her own carefully guarded secrets.
And since their father has left a financial ruin in his wake, the three women struggle to save the family winery, meeting resistance every step of the way. The arrival of an elderly friend of Olivier's brings tremendous wisdom along with many secrets to be uncovered. I was sad to see this spirited, sparkling gem come to a fulfilling end, as I found myself transported to the Champagne region of France and just did not want to leave!
