My daughter and I listened to this gripping story when we were traveling by car across the South. It was particularly vivid for us because the story is set in the Tennessee woods during the Civil War and we were right there, imagining it all happening around us. Plus, the author grew up in Tennessee, so his ability to capture the setting is superb. This is great historical fiction about a young boy named Chris Brabson who is full of hatred for the Yankee soldiers who take all his family's food and supplies and are camping in the woods around his home. Matters go from bad to worse when Chris discovers that his very own brother has joined the Union forces. Chris decides to aid the Confederates, but his plan backfires when he discovers that the Rebels are going to attack a Union wagon train at dawn, and his brother is part of that train. What will Chris do? Where will his loyalties lie?
