Creel is certainly not your typical ''damsel-in-distress,'' even when her aunt gives her to the local dragon to eat so a knight will rescue the whole family. Creel sends the knight packing, befriends the dragon, and ends up with some very comfortable dragon slippers. (The dragon collects shoes rather than gold.) Little does Creel know what those slippers will bring to her life -- danger, dragon allies, foes and fame, and a quest that would make anyone shake in their boots (or slippers?)! Creel's spunk and determination won my admiration from page one, and I couldn't put this book down. There's a light and winsome magic flowing through the pages that warms the heart and satisfies one's imagination completely. Here is a book with that extra something special I am always looking for. It has depth and delight -- a marvelous combination!
