A Flower Fairies' Journal
Cicely Barker
|
Oh, I can't wait until you pick up this jewel of a book. Holding it is sheer pleasure, because the cover is gilded and padded, and it feels like something alive, full of magic and the mystery of days past. Open the pages and you enter the world of Cicely Mary Barker, the artist who created all the flower fairy books we know and love. This book is a copy of the journal she kept the summer of 1920, when she stayed at Bartons, a lovely cottage a friend lent her while the friend was away in India. It is so much fun to read Cicely's entries and look at the old postcards she kept, maps of Sussex, train tickets, and all sorts of other curiosities that were actually part of her experiences there.
