This book received the honor of being the most frequently suggested by our customers, at one time. I think I even got two photocopies of the entire book in the mail from serious fans. It won my heart and I think it will hold a special place in yours, too.

Mr. Hatch is a lonesome soul. Retiring yet kindly, his unexciting existence is about as bland as it gets. No circle of friends embraces him, and vice versa. But that Valentine's Day when the postman delivers a big package with a note saying, "Somebody loves you," things change forever.

Awestruck that someone actually noticed him enough to love him, for heaven's sake, Mr. Hatch lets down his shy defenses and opens up to everyone around him, because anybody could be the mysterious source of that package. Touched by the wonderful spell of feeling loved, he smiles for the first time the townspeople can remember and shares the big box of candy. He opens up, he feels accepted by people, they respond in kind, and Mr. Hatch acquires a glow to his face thanks to the warm glow in his heart. Life is good, as it is meant to be. We have here all the makings of a "happily ever after" story.

Then the postman returns one day with the ominous news that he had unfortunately misdelivered the "Somebody loves you" package of several weeks ago, and now needs to retrieve whatever is left of it. With an I-knew-this-was-too-good-to-be-true sigh, Mr. Hatch hands over the empty box, apologizing for not having looked at the address label in the first place, to make sure the package was for him. He realizes that "Somebody" didn't love him after all - but another person. Life returns to the ho-hum, day-in day-out existence of pre-package days. Mr. Hatch goes back to being the lonely soul he's always been. (Note the illustrations, which have gone from lifeless color to vibrant and now back to lifeless.)

But the townsfolk have seen his light. They now know how helpful, caring and delightful a feeling-loved Mr. Hatch really is, and they miss him. I can't ruin the ending for you, but it is as it should be: that everyone is worthy of love and feels that love in a way that is tangible.

Don't let this book pass you by. Its stylized, colored-pencil illustrations are just as pleasing to the eye as its message is to the heart. This book transcends its Valentine's Day theme - it's good for any day of the year.

We ship all orders from our warehouse in Spring Valley, California on the next business day (Monday through Friday) from when you placed your order. Depending upon your location, your order should arrive within 3 to 14 days.

We ship by both UPS and the U.S. postal service. We select whichever method provides the most efficient delivery of the items you've ordered. If you prefer one method over the other, please let us know. We need to have a physical street address for UPS. Please include shipping as indicated by the following chart, based on your merchandise subtotal:

Priority Mail - Add $7.95 to your standard shipping rate above. After your order is shipped, you can expect it in 3-5 business days.

UPS 2nd Day Air - Add $11.95 to standard shipping (Continental U.S.). We need a physical street address. This guarantees you will get your order within 2-3 business days (excluding weekends) after we ship it.

UPS One Day Air - Add $21.95 to standard shipping (Continental USA only). We need a physical street address. This guarantees you will get your order one business day after we ship it (excluding weekends).

Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. Territories - We normally ship all HI and AK orders by U.S. Mail Parcel Post (normal delivery time is 2-4 weeks). Add $7.95 to regular shipping for PRIORITY MAIL; after your order is shipped, you can expect it within 3-10 mailing days. Add $15.00 to regular shipping for UPS 2ND DAY AIR; please allow 3-4 business days from the time your order is shipped. (We need a street address.) No UPS to APO/FPO addresses.

Canadian Shipping:
We ship all Canadian orders by air. Payment must be in U.S. funds. The order recipient will be responsible for any duty/custom charges when the package arrives in Canada. Air mail rates: Add 15% of your subtotal, with a $7.95 minimum charge.

International Shipping:

We hope to offer you international ordering online soon. In the meantime, you may call 619-670-5200, fax 619-670-5203, or email us at customerservice@chinaberry.net with your order to find out what your shipping charge would be. If you are having your order shipped internationally, UPS requires that you include a phone number for them to contact for delivery information.

We ship international orders (except Canadian) via Air Express only. While this ensures your order will arrive very quickly (within one week), it is also very expensive. (Shipping generally begins at about $65.00 for a one pound package and goes up with weight.)

As an affordable alternative, many of our international customers have their orders shipped to a friend or relative in the U.S who will forward the orders on to them.

Sales Tax

We collect sales tax based on the "ship to" address of your order. We are required to collect sales tax in California, which is where we are located. If you're shipping to California, please include tax as follows:

Calculate 8.75% of the total of your merchandise.

We don't collect tax on gift certificates.

Sales Tax Exemption

We are required by law to collect sales tax on any orders going to California. If you are a tax-exempt organization, we need to have a copy of the Exemption Certificate issued to you by the State of California on file before you can order tax-free. You may either mail or fax (619-670-5203) us a copy of your certificate. We ask that you place your orders by mail, fax (619-670-5203) or phone. If you are ordering by phone, please call our customer service line, 1-888-481-6744, between 6am and 6pm Pacific time.

Return Policy

If you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase, simply return it within 4 months for a refund of the item price or an exchange for another item. For items returned after 4 months, we will give you a Chinaberry credit for the purchase price. On the back of your invoice, we provide you with a return form to complete. Please include it with your returned item(s). If an item is defective or if the order was filled incorrectly, we will send you a prepaid return label. If you have lost your return form, click here to print one out. We will do our best to handle the transaction quickly and in accordance with your wishes.
