Margaret Wise Brown
Illustrated by Lisa Mccue
|
What a delightful little book, with sturdy, colorful pages for little hands to hold and examine. I love that Margaret Wise Brown concentrates not on what Little Bunny sees when he wakes up in his cozy hole in the meadow, but on what he hears. Most picture books focus on our sight (we are such a visual society), but this one opens the world of noises and what the bunny hears from morning to night. First, he hears nothing. Then a fluttering and chirping sound. What is that? Then Bunny hops out and eats some leaves. What does that sound like? What sound calls Bunny home at evening? Your child is invited to guess; the book becomes a wonderful participatory read-aloud that is so much fun. And for those who appreciate what your child sees as well, the illustrations are superb!
