Spend any time at all watching these quick-footed creatures, and you'll agree that squirrels are nothing, if not busy. This little guy is no exception.
Autumn is in full swing. Leaves are falling, pumpkins are plump, berries are juicy, and you can almost feel the chill in the air. While other animals wile away the shorter days by lying the sun (the cats), hopping rocks (the frogs), resting on a branch (the Cardinal), or watching the moon (the owl and her owlets), the busy little squirrel is, well, busy. At the end of the book, it becomes clear why he has been so interested in the berries, the ripe apples, the acorns, and the corn. All curled up in the hole of the giant tree's trunk, he is finally resting, surrounded by the food he has been busily collecting to eat all winter.
