It used to be that we took for granted that babies need to be carried, and talked to, and sung to every day. But more and more babies are growing up maladjusted, without the ability to bond easily with others, and with damaged neural development and brain growth. Why? Because busy parents are putting their infants and toddlers in front of television and videos, believing this ''babysitter'' to be stimulating and harmless to their children. But research confirms that babies need constant touch and closeness, a parent talking to them about all the things that happen in a day, and rhythmic songs sung in their ears. Carrying, talking, and singing not only support a child's emotional and social development; these activities grow smarter brains as well.
