Adapted By Mary Ann Hoberman
Illustrated by Nadine Bernard Westcott

Most of us have heard some version of this silly song, but Hoberman has taken the verses to a whole new level, in which having whiskers mysteriously return is only half of poor old Michael's problems. He dresses in rags to hide his skin-igan, plays his violin-igan, to the chagrin (igan!) of all his neighbors and kin-igan. You get the picture. What a delight!

I am certain when you reach the end, your children will all cry in unison: "Begin-igan!"
There once was a man named Michael Finnegan
He had whiskers on his chin -igan.
Shaved them off and they grew in-igan,
Poor old Michael Finnegan. Begin-igan!
