This is our dream come true: The Wind Boy on audio. If ever there were a book that shares the wonder and soft magic of childhood, The Wind Boy is it. It has been one of our all-time favorites here at Chinaberry. So, when we had the opportunity to translate it into an audio tape, a whole new world opened: a world where the characters of the book each had a voice and where music was composed to fit the mood. We carefully abridged the book to maintain that which has made the story so well-loved through generations. The Wind Boy on audio is a pleasure to offer you and a delight to hear.
The time and place of this story is a mystery. It is a curious combination of present day and long-ago. When Detra and her 2 children find themselves in a village, separated by war from husband and father, they make do the best they can while awaiting the day when they all will be re-united. They are soon joined by a young girl from the mountains who answers an ad to help Detra with the house and with the children -- and a new way of life is breathed into their simple world. This girl brings with her a sense of comfort and trust, magic and innocence. She is welcomed into the family with open arms and hearts. And soon thereafter begins the wondrous story of their first and subsequent encounters with the Wind Boy, one of a group of fairies who allow themselves to be seen by only a few.
There is a delicious amount of suspense in this story, as well as times during which children and adults act with heart-warming integrity and with respect, even under the most trying of circumstances. The Wind Boy opens up doors of the imagination while at the same time offering us opportunities to see humans at their best. Don't miss this one. Even if you've already read the book to your children, the audio is a heart-stirring, gentle pleasure to listen to.
