Todd Tarpley
Illustrated by Marc Brown
''Into the world came ten tiny toes, a hundred times sweeter than one could suppose.'' Isn't that so very true? A new baby is always more precious and beautiful than you could have ever imagined he'd be. And those toes -- always so very small! Perhaps I'm getting sentimental because my littlest is about to turn one, but I know I'm not the only person to feel this way! This dear book describes those recollections perfectly, with vibrant illustrations in a textured paper-collage style.
As the book progresses, we see babies grow along with their toes, kicking, crawling, and learning to walk. ''As they got older their confidence grew. They learned to do things that small toes couldn't do.'' Awwww! Of course, at the end of the story, the ''ten tiny toes are all grown, happily raising ten toes of their own'' and the cycle begins again with a new baby and a fresh set of tiny toes.
