This stoneware berry colander, hand-thrown and signed by a master potter in the Appalachian foothills, has to be one of the best inventions since the corkscrew! With all the talk about berries being one of the richest sources of antioxidants, we'd best be eating our share every day.
When you'd like to rinse a few berries to eat, it's much more pleasant when you've got a handy little colander all ready to go, sitting alongside your mugs. It sure beats hauling out that humungous colander you got at a home party 25 years ago.
As dramatic as it sounds, now that I have one of these artful colanders, I don't know what I did without it. I use mine every day for berries, grapes, small batches of pasta, beans, etc. There's nothing like having the right tools in the kitchen, and this is one of my favorites.
It holds about 2 cups, but because each one is handmade, the size and color tones may vary slightly. The small indentation on the bottom rim is intentionally there for drainage purposes.
