''I am wondering what to give -- someone -- for Christmas,'' says a little mouse when his mother asks why he looks so sad on Christmas Eve. ''Well, what would you like to give this person for Christmas?'' she asks, never letting on that ''this person'' is she.
So little mouse thinks of all the things he could make -- a pincushion, a pen wiper, or a plum pudding. Mother mouse goes along, gently steering him back to the reality that such projects are not really possible -- especially that evening! Could it be that there is something already right at hand that he can easily give?
