A Moving Parts Book
Illustrated by Paul O. Zelinsky
|
What child doesn't get a kick out of this song? "This old man/he played one/he played knick-knack on my thumb..." Its appeal is sort of wonderfully contagious. Add pull-tabs that reveal moving parts, and, well, you have a book that just cannot possibly miss the mark. We follow a young boy setting out on a walk and watch as he encounters the numbers 1-10, each with its own "old man" peeping from behind here and rolling home there. The dog and his bone is something to look for on each spread too. The detail and creativity behind all of the tabs and what they do is pretty darn spectacular. And wait until you see how "Knick Knack" is actually played, at book's end. You, as an adult reading this with your child, will likely be awe-struck and your young one will be mesmerized. KNICK-KNACK PADDYWHACK can be read over and over again and you may never find all there is to see in its lush illustrations. Clearly, here is a creation that brings tab-pulling and flap-lifting to new levels! (Depending on your child's dexterity and how he treats books, you might want to designate yourself as the mover of parts.)
