Ukrainian Egg Decorating
Making Pysanky is a traditional Christmas and Easter activity in the Ukraine, and the remarkably colorful decorated eggs that result from the intense dyes make this activity a fun family project. Though the eggs we decorated didn't turn out as flawless or as elaborate as traditional Pysanky (whose creators work a lifetime to perfect their art), they all were striking and unique.
The kistka seen here is the instrument with which the beeswax is applied in order to resist the dye.
