How Oliver Olson Changed the World

Claudia Mills
Illustrated by Heather Maione
I've been working to give my younger son more freedom, so I can relate to the very over-protective parents in this little gem. Many parents will relate to some degree, kids will heave a huge sigh of relief, and everyone will laugh a little as they read about third-grader Oliver and his parents.
Oliver wonders how he could ever change the world when his parents won't let him do anything on his own—not his school project, not sleeping over at a friend's, and certainly not the big space sleepover at school. So when Crystal wants to do her project with Oliver, he's not sure his parents will like it. Chatty Crystal helps Oliver's confidence bloom, and before you know it, he's got a great idea, if only he has the nerve to follow through. Whether confident or hesitant, both boys and girls will appreciate this rare book.
