A Lost Novel Rediscovered
Jetta Carleton
Jetta Carleton is best known for The Moonflower Vine, a republished classic from the 1960's. Clair de Lune, also rediscovered, is an equally mesmerizing book. Carleton is able to invoke all the richness of another time and place and get inside the souls of her characters so deeply that you feel you can call them ''kin.'' I thought about the young woman Allen Liles for days after finishing this book. She haunted my heart.
This is her story, set in 1941 at the brink of WWII, in a small town in southwest Missouri.
