And Other Things My Children Taught Me While I Was Having a Nervous Breakdown Being Their Mother
Beth Harpaz
WATCH VIDEO FOR 13 IS THE NEW 18
Yesterday I was laughing with a friend about the exploits of our teen boys. Laughing so hard I was almost crying—in order to keep from really crying, I suspect. When I read this hilarious book, I felt the same kind of relief, and, perhaps most importantly, that I'm not alone. I feel a true kinship with the author, whose son—like one of my own—has turned into a young man virtually overnight.
Peppered with the reality of boys growing into men, including some pretty colorful language, the book paints a comical and entertaining picture of her life with a teen.
Her massive dose of humor helps with concerns about declining grades, huge cell phone bills, and suspicions about drinking and smoking. I could sure relate to her worries about all sorts of implausible situations when kids are late coming home, the immense amount of computer time kids apparently need these days, and their seemingly insatiable appetite for things like $100 sneakers.
Ultimately, I'm impressed that she's allowed her son the freedom he needs to blossom in his own gangly, awkward way, as many teens do. If you could use some comic relief about your teen's antics, get this book. Believe me, you'll be doing yourself a huge favor.
