We parents all know that we'll love our children no matter what. And we do our best to be living examples of that commitment, even when our children aren't acting very lovable. And over the past several years there have been some extremely wonderful books reinforcing the idea that unconditional love does exist and what it looks like in a child's eyes and experience. And... we really can't hear this too many times. Parents, or children. No Matter What is about Small, who begins the book as a grim and grumpy young fox -- who runs the gamut of "testing" behavior (I don't have to get more specific than that, do I?!) while Large, his parent (maybe Mother, maybe Father -- the illustrations are non-committal), stays calm and acts with kindness to eventually assure Small that, no matter what, he (or "she," if you wish) will still be loved.

Steering well clear of being anything resembling smarmy or cloying (easy to do when you're talking about unconditional love to a child), No Matter What has a cheery, off-beat thread running through it that lightens up the whole subject. Small wants to know: (among other things)"If I were a grumpy grizzly bear,would you still love me?Would you still care?"Of course," said Large."Bear or not,I'd always love you,No matter what." "But if I turned into a squishy bug,would you still love me and give mea hug?""Of course," said Large."Bug or not,I'd always love you,No matter what."Small comes to find that no matter what he becomes (even a crocodile!) he'll still be loved and that if it feels as if love can wear out, break or bend, "with time together, a smile and a kiss, love can be mended with things like this."

Spend some time with the detailed and lively illustrations. They are a sweet blend of cheeriness and warmth, with the last pages veritably swelling with shared love between Large and Small as the young one comes to understand that everything is all just fine between them. We parents spend a significant amount of energy making sure our children know that they'll be loved, but sometimes we need to let ourselves know that we'll be loved, too, even when we're having a bad day. If we take the time to read between the lines, No Matter What is a gentle reminder of how vital it is for everyone - even parents - to feel loved.

Shipping Rates and Information

We ship all orders from our warehouse in Spring Valley, California on the next business day (Monday through Friday) from when you placed your order. Depending upon your location, your order should arrive within 3 to 14 days.

We ship by both UPS and the U.S. postal service. We select whichever method provides the most efficient delivery of the items you've ordered. If you prefer one method over the other, please let us know. We need to have a physical street address for UPS. Please include shipping as indicated by the following chart, based on your merchandise subtotal:

Faster Shipping:

Priority Mail - Add $7.95 to your standard shipping rate above. After your order is shipped, you can expect it in 3-5 business days.

UPS 2nd Day Air - Add $11.95 to standard shipping (Continental U.S.). We need a physical street address. This guarantees you will get your order within 2-3 business days (excluding weekends) after we ship it.

UPS One Day Air - Add $21.95 to standard shipping (Continental USA only). We need a physical street address. This guarantees you will get your order one business day after we ship it (excluding weekends).

Alaska and Hawaii - We normally ship all HI and AK orders by U.S. Mail Parcel Post. Add $7.95 to regular shipping for PRIORITY MAIL; after your order is shipped, you can expect it within 3-10 mailing days. Add $15.00 to regular shipping for UPS 2ND DAY AIR; please allow 3-4 business days from the time your order is shipped. (We need a street address.) No UPS to APO/FPO addresses.

Canadian Shipping:
We ship all Canadian orders by air. Payment must be in U.S. funds. The order recipient will be responsible for any duty/custom charges when the package arrives in Canada. Air mail rates: Add 15% of your subtotal, with a $7.95 minimum charge.

International Shipping:

We hope to offer you international ordering online soon. In the meantime, you may call 619-670-5200, fax 619-670-5203, or email us at customerservice@chinaberry.net with your order to find out what your shipping charge would be. If you are having your order shipped internationally, UPS requires that you include a phone number for them to contact for delivery information.

We ship international orders (except Canadian) via Air Express only. While this ensures your order will arrive very quickly (within one week), it is also very expensive. (Shipping generally begins at about $55.00 for a one pound package and goes up with weight.)

As an affordable alternative, many of our international customers have their orders shipped to a friend or relative in the U.S who will forward the orders on to them.

Sales Tax

We collect sales tax based on the "ship to" address of your order. We are required to collect sales tax in California, which is where we are located. If you're shipping to California, please include tax as follows:

Calculate 7.75% of the total of your merchandise.

We don't collect tax on gift certificates.

Sales Tax Exemption

We are required by law to collect sales tax on any orders going to California. If you are a tax-exempt organization, we need to have a copy of the Exemption Certificate issued to you by the State of California on file before you can order tax-free. You may either mail or fax (619-670-5203) us a copy of your certificate. We ask that you place your orders by mail, fax (619-670-5203) or phone. If you are ordering by phone, please call our customer service line, 1-888-481-6744, between 6am and 6pm Pacific time.

Return Policy

If you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase, simply return it within 4 months for a refund of the item price or an exchange for another item. For items returned after 4 months, we will give you a Chinaberry credit for the purchase price. On the back of your invoice, we provide you with a return form to complete. Please include it with your returned item(s). If an item is defective or if the order was filled incorrectly, we will send you a prepaid return label. If you have lost your return form, click here to print one out. We will do our best to handle the transaction quickly and in accordance with your wishes.
